It's true, you can run a separate standalone daemon. And you can still share the code between the two projects.

1) Rouge offers the web servers as a complementary feature, as found in several of the competing solutions.

2) You can always choose to ignore the built-in web server and use your own version.

One thing is for sure, if you want the webserver to run in the same process, you need to use the built-in web servers.

I see. A useful feature, no doubt!

But can the http server run as a standalone daemon (for modularity and fault tolerance needs) and in the same time it would be possible to
1. share the code base between components? For example, by completing the Tapjoy offer, the character would gain the level-up (by manipulating TheCharacter class).
2. And maybe even share the same java process? For example, admin would kick some players in real-time using the web page admin interface.

Thanks again for the reply

The webapp is used for the built-in administration interface. When you start a rouge server, you can connect to the admin interface and see who is connected, what was said in chatrooms, etc. The admin interface can also be used to debug the network interactions, as they are available in the admin.

The webapp can also be used for novel interactions, such as callbacks from third-party providers (Facebook, Tapjoy, etc.).

The lack of monthly subscription was the initial lure. But the key feature was the lack of grind. A character could reach the top level very fast. From then, there was plenty for the player to enjoy without having him grind the same task over and over.

Yes, the addiction plays a role in the manner that you invest yourself into the game.
However the main part of an attractive game is that it brings pleasure to its player.

So what did pleasured you most in GuildWars. What did standout among other games?

Staying at the Apple Store for a couple of hours, I can say 2 things:

1) They are completely overloaded, especially with the iPad 2. I've seen a salesman handle 4 customers simultaneously so people wouldn't get angry. I'm pretty impressive to see the stuff sell this much.

2) They are pretty big with FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt), especially with the older customers. Windows is evil, slow and full of viruses. Your skin will boil if you use Windows. Well, maybe not the last one, but pretty close.

Still waiting ...

Yeah, but then I would run the risk of having the console die on me ;-)

You should have picked it up for Xbox 360 instead. You wouldn't had the installation times.
